SPAR Northern Ireland has initiated a product recall for several of its ‘Enjoy Local’ cooked chicken products in Northern Ireland due to the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The recall, specific to Northern Ireland, affects three popular lines:

  • SPAR Enjoy Local Cooked Chicken Pieces (150g) with batch code 5126 and a Use by date of May 21, 2025.
  • SPAR Enjoy Local Cooked Chicken Slices (150g) with batch code 5126 and a Use by date of May 21, 2025.
  • SPAR Enjoy Local Cooked Chicken Fillets (300g) with batch code 5126 and a Use by date of May 21, 2025.

Infection with Listeria monocytogenes can cause symptoms similar to the flu, including high temperature, muscle aches, chills, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In rare instances, the infection can lead to more severe complications such as meningitis.

Certain groups are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including individuals over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn children, babies younger than one month old, and those with compromised immune systems.

In response to the potential contamination, Henderson Group, which owns the SPAR franchise in Northern Ireland, is actively recalling the affected products from sale. To inform consumers, point-of-sale notices will be displayed in all stores where these products were available.

Customers who have bought the above products can return them to where they were bought for a full refund.
