Sales uptick at local stores doubles income for Nisa charity

With local stores witnessing increased sales, Nisa’s charity Making a Difference Locally (MADL) is seeing a significant boost to its income.

MADL raises funds in Nisa partner stores from sales of all Heritage and Co-op own-label products, a percentage of which goes into a virtual fund for retailers to donate.

Nisa said sales of Heritage and Co-op own label products have soared in March, leading to an uplift of 30 percent in the charity’s income March, month-on-month. When compared with March 2019, the income nearly doubled, increasing by 87 percent.

“The pandemic has seen many shoppers favouring their local convenience store over making trips to the larger supermarkets and by supporting their local Nisa store, customers have raised a significant amount of money for some fantastic good causes in their communities,” commented Kate Carroll, Nisa’s head of charity.

Retailer donations have also been up this month as a result, she added.

“It’s heart-warming to see from the increase in donations Nisa retailers are making that they are responding to the needs of their local communities and providing additional support where it’s needed the most,” Carroll said.

Since its formation in 2008, MADL has raised over £11.5 million and supported charities and other good causes with over 12,000 donations.

Stores can donate funds raised to a local charity or good cause of their choice within a 10 mile radius, ensuring money raised will benefit the local community. There are over 2,300 stores participating in the initiative.
