Retailers’ bodies poured in tribute to the Queen today, as the industry mourned the death of the country’s longest-reigning monarch.

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, passed away at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.

Reacting to the news, Helen Dickinson, Chief Executive of the British Retail Consortium, said that the retail industry is joining the world in mourning the passing of Her Majesty the Queen.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the Royal Family. For over 70 years, The Queen has been a source of solidarity and strength for this nation. Her loss will be felt across the country, and she will be greatly missed.

Following the sad passing of The Queen, the Fed’s National President Jason Birks has paid the following tribute.

“Independent retailers are saddened by the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II.  She served with unswerving duty, dedication and commitment. May she rest in peace,” Birks said, adding “our thoughts are with the King and his family”.

Co-op chief executive Shirine Khoury-Haq said, “On behalf of Co-op UK, I would like to offer our deepest condolences to the Royal Family, following the news about the passing of Her Majesty the Queen.”
