Purely plantain chips takes a stand against palm oil

Purely, specialist producers of ethically sourced plantain chips, is proud to demonstrate their commitment to prevent deforestation by eliminating palm oil from all of its products.

With this crucial step, Purely aims to raise awareness of the environmental impact of palm oil production and empower eco-conscious consumers to make informed decisions when choosing a tasty snack.

Palm oil cultivation, for use in foods, cosmetics and even cleaning products has long been associated with deforestation, biodiversity loss, and human rights abuses. “As a brand deeply committed to preserving our planet’s natural resources, Purely recognises the need for urgent action on this issue,” said Stef Pellegrino, founder and CEO of Purely. “By always using alternatives to palm oil in its product range, Purely is taking a firm stance and actively promoting a more sustainable future for both consumers and the planet.”

A cousin of the banana, plantain is a delicious savoury fruit that’s considered a staple in diets throughout Africa, South-East Asia, and both Central and South America. Purely plantains are sustainably farmed by small plantation farmers in Ecuador before they are kettle cooked in the traditional Ecuadorian manner in sunflower oil. In this way, the country can benefit from economic support while snackers benefit from the deliciously authentic plantain experience while knowing they are doing their bit to be kinder to the planet.

“We believe that businesses have a responsibility to drive positive change in the world,” added Pellegrino. “By refusing to use palm oil in any of our products, we are sending a clear message that deforestation along with the other issues associated with palm oil production is unacceptable and that there are better choices. We want to inspire other companies to follow suit and join the fight against this destructive approach.”

Purely has formulated its entire production process to ensure that no palm oil or palm oil derivatives are used in the manufacture of its delicious plantain chips. Purely’s products now proudly bear the “Palm Oil-Free” label, providing customers with a tangible way to recognise their stance and support deforestation-free choices.

In addition to this pivotal action, Purely is launching a comprehensive education campaign to raise awareness about the adverse effects of palm oil production.

Through these ongoing efforts, Purely hopes to encourage food and cosmetic manufacturers, industry leaders, and consumers to join the movement against deforestation and choose palm oil-free products.
