A court has ordered a shop in Plumstead to pay £25,000 after it was caught selling illegal cigarettes and tobacco.

According to local repoorts, Cristi and Ramon Ltd, a company that operates a supermarket at 26 Plumstead High Street, was prosecuted by the London Borough of Greenwich. In May 2022 the shop sold products which broke packaging regulations and trademark laws, as well as products which did not display health warnings.

On Aug 16, a sentencing hearing took place at Bexley Magistrates’ Court during which Cristi and Ramon Ltd was fined £10,000 after pleading guilty to 10 charges relating to illegal tobacco and cigarettes. Cristi and Ramon Ltd was also ordered to pay £15,000 in costs and a £190 surcharge.

Company director Daniel Serban, aged 46, of Park Avenue in Barking, was given a community order including 120 hours of unpaid work after pleading guilty to 12 charges.

Robert Dumitru, aged 55, also of Park Avenue in Barking, was given a community order with 80 hours of unpaid work after pleading guilty to four charges.
