Objections are being raised over the prospect of a new store in North Lincolnshire gaining alcohol licence with the locals saying that there are already abundance of shops selling booze in the area which is leading to “alcohol-fueled littering, disturbances, intimidation and lewd sexual acts”.

According to local reports, more than 20 people have objected to the latest application from a Scunthorpe supermarket for an alcohol licence. It has come from Viking Market on Frodingham Plaza, which wants to sell it from 5am to midnight every day.

Locals have claimed that large groups of drinkers regularly gather in the area, intimidating passers-by. They often leave behind empty bottles, litter and smashed glass.

“The area in and around Frodingham Road is already suffering form an excess sale of alcohol with the existing off-licences in the area,” reports quoted a letter signed by numerous residents.

"As a local resident, I have seen first-hand the increase in alcohol-fuelled littering, disturbances, intimidation and lewd sexual acts which have been reported to the police. Granting of this licence will encourage further littering and anti-social behaviour."

As per reports, town ward councillors Lorraine Yeadon and Mashook Ali have also objected to the plans. They say that residents contact them frequently about fly-tipping and litter in the neighbourhood.

The police and trading standards have also expressed concerns about the security of alcohol sales. They have asked for measures to be tightened up to ensure that under 18s aren’t sold alcohol, reports said.
