A petrol station forecourt shop in Northampton has been granted a variation in its licence allowing the sale of alcohol from 6.30am instead of the current time of 8am.

An application for the variation of the premises licence at Abington Avenue SF Connect was submitted on behalf of the licence holders BP Oil UK Ltd.

The application was considered at a meeting of West Northamptonshire Council’s licensing sub committee on April 29. It was granted subject to a number of conditions.

A report stated it was submitted with the intention to vary the premises licence to extend the sale of alcohol to between the hours of 6.30am and 11pm daily for consumption off the premises. Current licensed hours are between 8am and 11pm.

Northamptonshire Police considered the application and initially made a representation, but this was later withdrawn following agreement through the applicant’s representatives to a number of conditions.

Solicitor Robert Botkai, on behalf of the applicant, addressed the committee. He said: “We currently have eight in the morning to 11 o’clock at night and we are asking for 6.30 in the morning to 11 o’clock at night and that is simply to match our trading hours.

“We are already open those hours but we can’t sell alcohol so we have to shutter off the alcohol for that hour and a half in the morning.”

Botkai went to say that the applicant had some discussion with the police and 15 conditions had been agreed.
