New 'hyperfast' age verification solution for vaping sector

New 'hyperfast' age verification solution for vaping sector
1account founder and CEO Ben Keirle

Age verification solutions provider 1account has launched 1click sign-up for consumers buying vape products online, to enable faster transaction times and higher customer conversions than ever experienced before.

With 1click sign-up, any consumer previously verified on a website where 1account’s tech is present, can at the click of a button have their data attributes pulled into a vape retailer’s website registration form. Because their details are pre-validated – and there is no need for interaction from the consumer – there is zero user input error.

“As the world continues to move towards a fully digital future and time becomes ever more precious, a frictionless online customer experience is becoming increasingly important,” commented Ben Keirle, 1account’s chief executive.

“There are around three million vapers in the UK, 60 per cent of whom are buying their products online. Therefore, hyperfast age and identity verification is not only crucial to the industry’s reputation as being a responsible one, but to the online customer experience and the bottom line.

1account currently provides age verification services to several of the top vape retailers in the UK, including the likes of E-Cigarette Direct, Royal Flush Vape, Vapourcore, Vape Superstore, VPZ, E–Liquids UK, Not Blowing Smoke, Vape UK and E-liquids.com.

“1click sign-up has been designed to accelerate the transaction process by reducing purchasing friction. It achieves this by calling up the data that has already been stored securely on our system as a result of the customer having been age or identity verified by us previously. As it is verified data it means zero input error by the customer, helping online retailers of age-restricted products to convert more registrations,” Keirle added.

When consumers are first verified by 1account they have to provide their name, date of birth, email and phone number which are then checked against an extensive range of national data sources. These consumers, when subsequently registering on vape retailer sites with 1account’s technology, then simply need to use the 1click sign-up function to pull in all their previously verified details.

Similarly, consumers using 1account’s digital ID app, which verifies their identity by checking typical identity documents, can also take advantage of 1click sign-up. As with those who have been age verified previously by 1account, the company’s system will simply call up their data which was used as part of creating a digital ID.

1account is aiming to have some 3 million verified consumers on its system by the end of 2022 which will open up significant commercial and customer experience benefits for vape retailers.

Surge recorded in whole food sales

Brits are increasingly leaning towards cooking from scratch and are ditching ultra processed food, thus embracing a much simpler approach to their diet, a recent report has stated.
According to a recent report from John Lewis Partnership released on Friday (17), supermarket Waitrose has reported that it’s back to basics for many in 2025 due to a growing awareness around ultra processed foods, with many turning away from low-fat, highly processed products in favour of less-processed, whole food ingredients.
Whole milk and full-fat Greek yogurt sales are up 11 per cent and 21 per cent compared to skimmed milk and Greek style yoghurt a year ago.
Block butter sales are up by +20 per cent as compared to dairy spreads while brown rice is seeing +7 per cent more sales as compared to white rice.
The report adds that sourdough bread sales are up by +20 per cent as compared to white bread while full fat Greek yoghurt recorded +21 per cent more sales than Greek style yoghurt.
Over the past 30 days, searches on Waitrose website whole food searches soared with ‘full fat milk’ and ‘full fat yoghurt’ skyrocketing 417 per cent and 233 per cent.
The shfit reflects the wider growing awareness of effects of ultra-processed foods, thanks in no small part to Dr Chris van Tulleken’s bestselling book Ultra-Processed People and its continued momentum in 2024 and into 2025.
His eye-opening, rigorously researched account of ultra-processed foods and their effect on our health turned many people towards cooking from scratch, with unprocessed or minimally processed ingredients.

Maddy Wilson, Director of Waitrose Own Brand comments, “There’s been a lot of bad press around so-called ‘healthy’ products which aren’t nutritious and don’t taste great, however the growing awareness of ultra processed food in our diets has seen many customers seeking the basics and embracing a much simpler approach to their diet.”

Waitrose Food & Drink report released last year highlighted that 54 per cent of those surveyed proactively avoid processed foods.

Champagne shipments hit by gloomy consumer mood in 2024, producers say

French champagne shipments fell by nearly 10 per cent last year as economic and political uncertainties hit consumers' appetite for the sparkling wine in key markets such as France and the US, the producers association said.

Producers had called in July for a cut in the number of grapes harvested this year after sales fell more than 15 per cent in the first half of 2024. Full year shipments were down 9.2 per cent from 2023 at 271.4 million bottles, the Comite Champagne (Champagne Committee) said.
