New ‘hyperfast’ age verification solution for online retailers of age-restricted products

1account, providers of age verification solutions for the online retail of age-restricted products – such as vape devices and e-liquids, alcoholic drinks and knives – has launched 1click sign-up to enable faster onboarding times and higher customer conversion rates than ever experienced before.

With 1click sign-up, any consumer previously verified on a website where 1account’s technology is present, can at the click of a button pass their data attributes to a retailer’s website. As their details are pre-validated and securely held by 1account, there is zero user input error and 100 percent onboarding success..

Research by the Baymard Institute estimates that sales conversions can increase by more than 35 percent if a vendor is implementing the right checkout optimisation strategies. Its research also shows that average cart abandonment is just under 70 percent, with more than a third (34 percent) abandoning a transaction due to having to register an account online.

Ben Keirle, 1account’s CEO, said, “People have always had a level of expectation when it comes to customer service. Traditionally, in physical real-world settings, the benchmark has been factors such as pricing, quality and how they are treated by the vendor.

“Today’s customers, however, demand much more from their online experiences and won’t think twice about ending a transaction in mid-interaction if it’s not to their liking.”

“As the world continues to move towards a fully digital future and time becomes ever more precious, a frictionless online customer experience is becoming increasingly important. This has already been demonstrated in the e-commerce world where a platform such as Shopify, will store a consumer’s payment information to use regardless of which brand’s website they originally transacted on,” Keirle added.

“There are around three million vapers in the UK, 60 percent of whom are buying their products online. According to IBISWorld, online alcohol retailing in the UK has grown strongly over the past five years supported by growing digital literacy and rising online expenditure. Therefore, hyperfast age and identity verification is not only crucial to the responsible reputation of the online retailer, but also to the online customer experience and the bottom line.

“1click sign-up has been designed to accelerate the transaction process by reducing purchasing friction. It achieves this by calling up the data that has already been stored securely on our system as a result of the customer having been age or identity verified by us previously.  As it is verified data it means zero input error by the customer, helping online retailers of age-restricted products to convert more registration attempts.”

When consumers are first verified by 1account they have to provide their name, date of birth, email and phone number which are then checked against an extensive range of national data sources. These consumers, when subsequently registering on retailer sites with 1account’s technology, then simply need to use the 1click sign-up function to pull in all their previously verified details.

Similarly, consumers using 1account’s digital ID app, which verifies their identity by checking typical identity documents, can also take advantage of 1click sign-up. As with those who have been age verified previously by 1account, the company’s system will simply call up their data which was used as part of creating a digital ID.

1account says that it’s on target to have some three million verified consumers on its system by the end of 2022 which will open up significant commercial and customer experience benefits for online retailers.
