Moto Hospitality may introduce price reductions across all 47 forecourts if the trial is successful

Motorway services operator Moto Hospitality is trialling an 8ppl fuel price cut at five of its forecourts across the UK.

The trial is being carried out at three motorway service sites, including Frankley on the M5, Birmingham on the M6 and Donnington Park on the M1.

If successful, the company said price reductions will be rolled out across all 47 Moto Hospitalities making them as cheap as local petrol stations.

Fuel prices will drop to 111.9p per litre for unleaded and 117.9p per litre for diesel, meaning drivers could save an average £4 per full tank.

Moto Hospitality’s chief executive, Ken McMeikan, is also urging for the government to cut VAT on fuel due less people travelling caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Motorists are currently charged 57.95ppl of their fuel charges.

He said: “Times are tough and we know from our customer insight that motorists want to see lower fuel prices to help them make their money go as far as possible.

“We are hoping that, subject to a successful trial, we will be able to roll out these fuel price cuts to all of our Moto operated petrol stations.

“We are doing our part, but we hope the Government can provide some much needed help to motorists too. I have written to Rishi Sunak, urging him to make an immediate cut to VAT on fuel in line with his recent VAT cut from 20% to 5% for the hospitality industry.”
