Motor Fuel Group (MFG), the leading independent forecourt operator, has completed the rollout of more than 580 rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging bays across the Morrisons supermarket network.

The move means EV Power, MFG’s charging brand, is now represented at nearly 300 Morrisons stores nationwide, making the retailer the UK’s number one supermarket for EV charging facilities.

The rollout was completed in just five months as part of MFG’s ongoing investment in the UK’s EV charging infrastructure. MFG acquired development plots for EV hubs in Morrisons car parks last year.

“Completing this rollout of rapid charging bays across the Morrisons network in just five months is a testament to our team’s expertise and commitment,” William Bannister, CEO of MFG, said. “We are delivering on our promise to provide the infrastructure communities need to embrace electric vehicles, while continuing to invest in a best-in-class experience for all our customers.”

The new chargers provide enough power for an average weekly driving range in around 45 minutes – allowing shoppers to recharge their cars while doing their grocery shop.

The rollout forms part of MFG’s broader strategy to electrify and future-proof its estate. Alongside the Morrisons partnership, the group is developing a network of ultra-rapid charging hubs across its 1,218 forecourts. By the end of 2025, MFG EV Power expects to have around 1,900 bays in operation, positioning it as the UK’s largest rapid and ultra-rapid charging network.

MFG plans to invest around £170 million in 2025 alone, funding EV hub development as well as redevelopments of its forecourts to include new food-to-go offers such as Pret, Greggs and Burger King, alongside upgraded convenience stores and car wash facilities.

Daisy Cooper, MP for St Albans, welcomed the completion of the rollout: “As a St Albans-based business, I’m delighted to see MFG complete their installation of 1,000 ultra-rapid EV charging bays across its sites nationwide. This is a significant investment in the UK EV charging sector and will give greater availability to drivers and reassurance that there are public charging points within a short drive anywhere in the UK.”

The UK’s EV market continues to grow rapidly, with more than 1.5 million electric vehicles now on British roads. One in five new cars sold this year is fully electric, underlining the need for accessible, high-speed charging options.
