A man has been charged and is due to appear in court in connection with an alleged knifepoint robbery at a SPAR store in Wimborne, police said on Friday.

The incident occurred at around 9pm on 24 April when the suspect entered the store in Gordon Road and pulled out a Stanley knife before demanding money from a member of staff at the till.

He allegedly grabbed the victim by their clothing and took cash from the till. The total value of the money reportedly stolen was around £300 to £400.

Dorset Police has arrested a 34-year-old man from the Dorchester area soon after the incident.

Following further enquiries by the detectives, he has now been charged with robbery and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and is due to appear at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on 18 August.
