An armed robber, who masked his face and targeted three shops in Greenock at knifepoint, has been charged at Greenock Sheriff Court.

According to local reports, Joseph Boyle, 40, committed assaults and robberies against workers at two of local stores on the same day before carrying out a third hold-up less than 24 hours later at Lynedoch Street and East Crawford Street.

Boyle is accused of first targeting the Usave shop on Lynedoch Street with his face concealed with a mask or similar covering where he held a male store worker at knifepoint before robbing him of £1,100 of money, plus eight vapes and three packets of cigarettes.

Boyle is further charged with targeting the New Best Cellar off-licence on East Crawford Street whilst allegedly armed with both a knife and a hammer. He demanded money from a man there and robbed him of £250 in cash, stated reports. Both the incidents happened on Feb 3.

The following day, Boyle is said to have targeted the Sana’s convenience store on Lynedoch Street where he again presented a knife at a man and demanded money and cigarettes before fleeing with the sum of £750.

Sheriff Sheena Fraser continued matters for further examination and allowed bail. A date for the next calling of the case in court is to be confirmed.
