Hancocks Cardiff to offer prizes, giveaways to retailers to mark 60th anniversary

Leading confectionery wholesaler Hancocks is marking its 60th anniversary year with a big instore event for customers and suppliers in Cardiff.

The Cardiff event, sponsored by Haribo, Nestle, Mondelez and Frisia, will include over 160 offers for retailers to take advantage of with prizes and giveaways including Apple Airpods, an electric scooter, a golf & spa break for two, loads of free stock giveaways and lots more.

The depot, based at Freemans Parc on Penarth Road, will be celebrating the milestone anniversary on Thursday March 10.

The Cardiff store first opened in 2002 and was relocated to its current site in 2014 when it needed bigger premises. It is one of 14 located around the UK for the sweet wholesaler.

The store supplies to the Pink Shop in Pontypridd, Kirsty Kandy’s in Porth and even to a number of market traders who have bought confectionery from the store since it first opened.

Sixtieth anniversary celebrations will be taking place across the Hancocks stores throughout this year, the firm said.

The wholesaler has its roots in Loughborough in the East Midlands and was founded by Ray and Liz Hancock who began wholesaling confectionery from their sweet shop in 1962.

In 1969 the second store opened in Sheffield with Stoke on Trent, Manchester and Birmingham opening shortly after. By 1986, Hancocks had seven stores across the UK.

The manager of the Cardiff store, Jo Rowlands has worked for Hancocks for 20 years with Paul Rodway having worked there for the last 14 years and Dan Hancock and Andrew Back for 11.

“We’re delighted to be opening our doors to customers and suppliers in Cardiff to celebrate Hancocks’ 60th anniversary and to thank them for being an integral part of the Hancocks journey,” Jo Rowlands said.

“We’ve been in the Welsh capital for 20 years now and moved eight years ago to larger premises which shows the demand there is for the huge range of confectionery we have available.

“This celebration is a chance for us to talk to retailers to show them what we have planned for the coming year, the offers available to them and the new confectionery lines we’ll be introducing.”

Hancocks Chief Operating Officer, Jonathan Summerley, said, “Reaching such a milestone anniversary is a testament to how our teams across the business work together, the service and products we’re able to supply to retailers, however large or small and the suppliers we work with on a daily basis.

“Our selection of confectionery is unrivaled and it’s this which keeps us relevant and ahead of the competition. The last couple of years have been difficult for most businesses. We’ve invested heavily in our online offering, and this combined with the 14 depots across the UK, means we offer flexibility and allow retailers to shop in the way they prefer.”

With 14 nationwide cash and carry stores and an online channel ww.hancocks.co.uk., Hancocks is the leading confectionery wholesaler catering to over 25,000 independent retailers and is part of the World of Sweets group.
