Staff at a convenience store in Warrington were “shaken” after some masked men threatened them with a hammer and ordered them to get on the floor.
According to local reports, the incident happened at the Co-Op store on Chapel Lane in Burtonwood on Wednesday (30) when two men entered the store and threatened staff, ordering them to get onto the floor.
One of the two men was armed with a hammer. The men stole a quantity of cigarettes and cash from behind the counter before fleeing the scene on foot, travelling down an alleyway opposite.
Detectives at Cheshire Police are appealing for witnesses and video footage related to the incident. Both of the offenders were described as men with local accents, who were tall and of medium build.
Detective Sergeant Joe McNally, of Warrington CID, said: “This incident has left the store workers understandably shaken and we are committed to doing all that we can to identify the people responsible.”
The police have confirmed that the first man was wearing a balaclava, a blue/grey Berghaus bubble coat with dark jogging pants and black trainers. He was also carrying a hammer. The second man was also wearing a balaclava, a dark Berghaus jacket and black trainers. He was carrying a black bag and a white canvas sack.
