A suspected break-in has reportedly taken place at a convenience store in Newcastle on Sunday (6) after which the front shutters were damaged properly.
According to local reports, an armed robbery occurred at Spar store in Moulton Place, Blakelaw. As per photographs posted online, there has been considerable damage to the front shutters of the store. Further details are still awaited.
The news comes less than a month following a report of a suspected robbery at another Spar store in Tyneside when a male offender allegedly entered the store and threatened and assaulted two female members of staff. The suspect went on to steal approximately £920 in cash from the till, reports said.
Meanwhile, about 970,000 incidents of theft, 800,000 incidents of verbal abuse and over 9,000 robberies had occurred over the last year, ACS said in a report today which also stated that the country’s local shops have invested a record £246 million in crime prevention measures over the last year.
The 2022 Crime Report, published today (8), shows that on average, each store in the convenience sector spent over £5,000 on crime prevention measures including security staff, CCTV and intruder alarms.
