Long-Running Devon convenience store changes hands after 20 Years

A long-established convenience store in one of Devon’s most popular seaside destinations has changed hands, marking the end of an era for its retiring owners and the beginning of a new chapter under experienced retailer Pradeep Radarapu.

Smardon’s Convenience Store in Brixham, South Devon, has been sold following more than two decades under the stewardship of Stuart and Kathleen Voisey, with the new owner aiming to build on the store’s strong local reputation while introducing fresh ideas to serve both residents and tourists.

Open seven days a week, the store is well-presented throughout and sells a wide range of products to the local community including general produce, bakery goods and soft drinks, beers and wines.

Situated on a busy main road in the centre of Brixham and close to the historic harbour and seafront, Smardon’s is easily accessible and serves both tourists and residents alike.

Stuart and Kathleen Voisey have been running the shop for over 20 years and feel that now is the time to retire and pass the reins to a new operator.

Stuart Voisey said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time operating Smardon’s in central Brixham. It is a fabulous location to enjoy day in and day out. I would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all our loyal customers over the years and very best of luck to Pradeep.”

Pradeep Radarapu is an experienced operator, having previously operated a petrol station and other convenience stores in the wider area and is looking forward to adding their own stamp on the business.

Pradeep added, “I have been very much looking forward to taking over the operation of this store since we had our offer accepted and Brixham is a stunning coastal town which we love.

“The shop offers a great opportunity to continue with the efforts that Stuart and Kathleen have made along with providing great scope for the many ideas we have to enhance the offering to the local community.”

The lease for Smardon’s Convenience Store was sold at an undisclosed sum.
