Company seeks extra time to build convenience store approved in 2016

A company behind plans to build a convenience store next to a Wrexham pub has asked for more time to move forward with the development.

Proposals to build a 232 square metre shop on the car park of the Five Crosses Inn in Minera were initially granted permission in March 2016.

A bid to increase the size of the store to 325 square metres was later refused by Wrexham Council because of concerns about a lack of parking.

However, the decision was overturned by a planning inspector, who said the 20 spaces proposed off Ruthin Road would be sufficient.

In his decision notice, Declan Beggan said there were also spaces available on nearby streets, with public transport links serving the area.

With the five-year date for work to start due to expire, Stockport-based firm Oxford Park Ltd. has asked the local authority for more time to progress with the scheme.

No reason has been given for the delays, but the company has requested for permission to be extended by a further five years.

The pub itself is currently closed and was previously listed for sale alongside the car park land.

It’s expected the council will make a decision on the application at a later date.
