Co-op on Friday (24) launched a new, improved and larger food store to serve and support the community of Burry Port, Carmarthenshire.

The convenience retailer’s newest store in Wales is a purpose-built near 4,000 sq ft store. It is conveniently located on a bus route and near the railway station in Seaview Terrace, Burry Port and supports 20 local jobs. It includes an instore bakery, hot food, Costa Coffee Express, Rollover hotdogs and burgers on-the-go, customer car parking, bicycle racks and, and a free cash machine providing access to cash in the community.

Parcel collection services are available via DPD and, an InPost Locker, for added ease and convenience.

The new Co-op is larger than the retailer’s former store in the town, and also includes an extended range and choice of chilled and fresh produce, meal ideas, everyday essentials, sandwiches, food-to-go and meal deals, Fairtrade products, flowers, chilled beers and award-winning wines; ready meals, pizzas and, free-from, vegan and plant-based products.

Co-op is also committed to supporting UK farmers, growers and suppliers, with all of its fresh and frozen meat and poultry, including in its ready meals, pies and freshly prepared sandwiches, 100 per cent British.

A soft plastic recycle unit is available in store to enable the community to recycle ‘soft plastics’ including: crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals and yogurt pots, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches – ensuring all Co-op’s own food packaging is recyclable either through local authority kerbside collections, or the in-store recycling unit.

Nikky McKenzie-James, Co-op Store Manager, said, “We have had a great response. The whole team is delighted to have the opportunity to launch Co-op’s newest store in Wales – the new store looks fantastic. Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life and we have worked to develop an improved range and choice with added services to create a compelling offer to serve our community conveniently.

“The store also has a focus on delivering value, with member price savings across a wide range of everyday essentials and groceries so that the people who own our business, our member-owners, benefit every time they shop.”
