Thieves stole a cash machine from a Co-op store in Staffordshire’s Wolstanton in the early hours of Friday (10), damaging the store’s shutters in the raid.

According to local reports, thieves used a transit van to damage the store’s shutters before taking the cash machine. Police say they then left the scene in a dark-coloured car.

Part of a wall was also knocked down during the raid. The Co-op at Wolstanton was forced to remain closed today following the incident and it is not known when the high street store will reopen.

Police are appealing for information in the case. Detectives at Staffordshire Police have launched an inquiry into the crime, reports said, adding that they have asked anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to contact them.

“Detectives are investigating after a Co-op was ram-raided. Police were called at 4am this morning to reports of a break-in on High Street, Wolstanton,” reports quoted a police spokesman as saying.

“A transit van was used to cause damage to the store shutters. The offenders stole the cash machine before making off in a dark-coloured car.”

“An investigation is underway. Anyone with any information, CCTV or dashcam footage from the area is asked to message Staffordshire Police on Facebook or Twitter quoting incident number 73 of today, call 101 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
