A third (33 per cent) of business owners say that sustainability is not currently a priority for them and just less than one in five (17 per cent) are focused on maintaining their green credentials as inflation in the industry skyrockets though desire among consumers to make eco-conscious swaps is still strong, claimed a recent report.

According to research by B Corp recipe box Gousto, over three quarters (78 per cent) of Britons are now worried about how the cost of living crisis is going to negatively impact the environment.

However, 53 per cent of consumers believe that sustainability should remain a high priority for businesses and 61 per cent think businesses could still be doing more despite current pressures around inflation, cost of living and labour.

The desire among consumers to make eco-conscious swaps is strong, with over half (51 per cent) wanting to make more significant changes to their lifestyle in a bid to live more sustainably, with 47 per cent feeling this at mealtimes particularly.

In a bid to be more sustainable in the home in recent years, Brits have already made conscious changes to their diet. Gousto found that 25 per cent of Brits said they have cut down on meat in their diet, 13 per cent have cut down on dairy and more than one in ten (12 per cent) under 44s have switched to recipe boxes to reduce household food waste.

As a certified B Corp, Gousto is committed to helping cooks make mealtimes more planet-friendly with 23 per cent lower carbon emissions than supermarket shops and a food-waste-fighting supply chain. The new Carbon-Cutting Cuisine range champions seasonal veg, smarter meat swaps and dairy alternatives so customers can monitor their footprint.

Gousto is the UK’s value recipe box, offering over 75 weekly recipes from as little as £3.14 per serving. They send precise ingredients and easy to follow recipe cards direct to your door.
