Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I said it is reducing the alcohol-by-volume (ABV) of packaged and draught Stella Artois and Stella Artois Gluten Free from 4.8% to 4.6% in the UK and Ireland.
The firm, the UK subsidiary of AB InBev, said the move responds to the growing wellness trend and the brewer’s commitment to responsible drinking.
“We know that taste and quality remain the number one priority for Stella Artois drinkers, and we also recognise an ongoing health and wellness trend through moderation. We are proud that we can now deliver the same Stella Artois taste people know and love, with an ABV of 4.6%,” said Dorien Nijs, Brewmaster at Stella Artois Brewery in Leuven, Belgium.
The firm noted that the 4.6% ABV bracket has been the fastest growing in premium and super premium beer in the UK, more than doubling in size over two years.
The firm has begun the roll out of 4.6% products in all formats in the on and off-trade from last month.
Stella Artois in the UK will still be brewed using the original Stella Artois yeast and celebrated Saaz hops, in Magor, Wales and Samlesbury, Lancashire using British barley.
