Birds Eye to launch extra large fish fingers

Frozen foods brand Birds Eye is releasing an extra large version of their popular fish fingers following a huge sales boom during the coronavirus pandemic.

Named Crispy Chunky Fish Fingers, the new seafood product will cost £3 for a pack of six, each weighing just over double (60g) of the standard fish finger (28g).


A television ad campaign promoting the upcoming food item alongside existing variants, Chunky and Oven Crispy Battered, is set to debut from today (Monday, 24th August).

Birds Eye sales success throughout 2020 comes following the national lockdown back in March, resulting in consumers turning to frozen food items in order to minimalise shopping trips.

Value sales during this period increased by almost a third (31.9%) against the year at the height of lockdown [Nielsen 4 w/e 16 May 2020].

Birds Eye Crispy Chunky Fish Fingers will be on sale in Iceland, Morrisons, Ocado and Tesco, from 7th September and Asda set for October.

Grocery sales to exceed £13 billion in December: Kantar

Take-home sales at the grocers increased by 2.5 per cent over the four weeks to 1 December as shoppers get ready for Christmas, according to the latest data from Kantar. Supermarket sales are expected to continue growing, exceeding £13 billion over the four weeks of December for the first time ever, the market researcher added.

“Monday 23rd December is likely to be the single busiest day for the supermarkets this year, although there are clear signs that shoppers are already stocking up their cupboards. Sales of assorted sweet biscuits and biscuits for cheese both doubled in November compared with the month before, while 8 per cent of us bought a Christmas pudding,” Fraser McKevitt, head of retail and consumer insight at Kantar, said.
