A second shop has been targeted by ram raiders causing around £8,000 worth of damage, just a few days after thieves smashed a car into another store.

According to local reports, a gang drove the vehicle into the front of Endike International in Endike Lane, north Hull, at around 2am on Thursday (19). The latest incident follows a similar ram raid which targeted the Euro Supermarket in Ellerburn Avenue in Orchard Park in the early hours of Monday (17).

Crime scene investigators from Humberside Police have been at the scene on Endike Lane this morning. The force has since confirmed two people have been arrested for the theft of a vehicle.

Staff member Sulyman Salih, speaking on behalf of the owner, says they are deeply frustrated by the ram raid which has left them with a huge clean-up bill and unable to open for the rest of the day.

“This has made us very angry and we feel there is no need for it. It is just horrible. It has caused nearly £8,000 in damage alone.

“We are still trying to figure out what was taken but it looks like a large number if e-cigarettes have been stolen which appears to me what they were looking for. There was also a few hundred quid in the till but we have not been able to check that yet,” reports quoted Salih as saying.

As well as the damage and stolen goods, it is a triple blow for the owner who will now lose at least on a day of business.

“I don’t think we will open today but we are working hard to clean up. But that means we are losing custom for the day which is another setback. This is the first time anything like this has happened to us but we know it has happened at other shops recently,” he said.

Humberside Police has confirmed two people have been arrested following the ram raid. They have also vowed to find those responsible for the similar incident in Orchard Park.

Detective Inspector Matt Grantham said: “Two of those suspected to be involved, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, have been arrested at properties in Hull this morning and we continue to look for others potentially involved.

“The two in custody were arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle which was taken in a burglary overnight on January 17-18.

“This is the second incident of this nature in North Hull in the past week and I understand how this will concern our community and business owners. We are doing all we can to identify those involved and will leave no stone unturned to bring those responsible to justice.”
