Officers investigating an armed robbery in Leeds, in which a member of staff was attacked with a machete and seriously injured, have released CCTV images of the suspects.

The shop worker was attacked even as he tried to run away from the masked robbers, police revealed.

The victim remains in hospital undergoing treatment for a serious injury to his hand.

As the shop staff, a 26-year-old man, approached the pair, one of the suspects produced a machete and struck him on the back causing a slight injury. He was then attacked with the machete again and received a serious injury to his hand that requires surgery.

“This was an appalling incident where the victim was running to escape when he was slashed on his back, and then suffered the injury to his hand while defending himself,” Detective Constable Samantha Wilson, of Leeds District CID, said.
