Northampton retailer makes 1,000 deliveries since launch in November

A Northampton convenience store has just made their 1,000th delivery since launching a same day local doorstep delivery service in November last year.

Whitehills Supermarket in Kingsthorpe, a Nisa Local store, offers the service through the Appy Shop mobile app, and has seen orders growing to around 200 every week.

“We have seen the service grow very quickly since its launch and lockdown 3.0 has prompted another surge of interest,” commented Alex Kapadia, the store owner.

“Customers might be struggling to get a delivery slot with the big four supermarkets, but they can order from us and can get same day delivery, within about an hour of placing their order.”

The store delivers to a wide range of customers including those who, for health reasons, are limited in their ability to shop for essential groceries.

Alex said: “A good number of our customers are now taking regular deliveries, some are actually unable to get out to the shop because they may be shielding or vulnerable and are using us for everything they need, and then there are some who might want a pizza and wine for tonight but don’t fancy going out.

“We are also seeing quite a lot of home-schooling parents who don’t have time to disrupt the day by going to the shop and so are ordering a delivery instead.”

The service has been promoted on leaflets delivered around the local area as well as via social media and the uptake has grown rapidly.

“Our delivery service is fast as well as personal and we cover a good radius and offer a great range so our customers can depend on us to get just what they need to their door,” said Alex.

“With more than 3,500 products including over 1,000 Co-op products available and deliveries between 11am and 10pm seven days per week to a five-mile radius around the store, we believe the service rivals any the major supermarkets can offer.”
