A West Sussex-based Premier store was rammed by car last week in an attempt to rip away cash machine.

According to local reports, police were seen outside the Premier convenience store in Wood Hill Way, Felpham in Bognor, on Saturday (24). The front doors were jarred open and a cash machine was seen on the floor outside the shop.

Police say a black pick-up truck reversed up to the shop where three men attached towing ropes to the front door. The truck was then driven forward to force the door open. A witness said the cash machine taken from the shop fell off the pick-up truck as it was driven away, reports stated, adding that debris can also be seen on the floor as well as a commercial freezer for ice cream.

The incident comes as a Co-op store in Bosham, near Chichester, was also ram raided with a forklift at around 3am last night. en in balaclavas were seen ramming the Co-op and stole the cash machine from the store. No arrests have been made for that burglary.

Police did confirm if this incident is linked with the Co-op burglary.

A witness to the Bosham ram raid said she had never seen anything like it before.

The witness added: “The noise was just another level, the sound of metal crunching. They got the ATM and there was a massive crash as they dropped it into one of the vehicles then sped off. Then about two minutes later, the police sped after them.

“They had a big chain, you could hear them connecting it up to the ATM. There was so much noise, I have never experienced anything like it,” reports quoted the witness as saying.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police received a report that a convenience store in Bognor was burgled in the early hours of Saturday September 24. It appears they tried to make off from the scene with the cash machine but witnesses state this fell from the pick-up truck as it was driven away.
