Two people have been arrested following a ram-raid that saw a cash machine stolen from a Co-op supermarket in Whetstone, Leicestershire.

According to Leicestershire Police, a blue Toyota Hilux was used to rip the ATM from the front of the Co-op store on Cambridge Road shortly after 4am on Wednesday (9 July). The vehicle fled the scene with a second car, a blue BMW, before colliding with an unmarked police vehicle. No officers were injured.

An 18-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and attempted murder, while a 20-year-old woman was held on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both remain in custody as investigations continue.

“While two people have been arrested, our investigation is continuing and we'd still like to speak to anyone who can help but who has not yet contacted police,” Detective Inspector Ed Prowse said.

“We're keen to speak to anyone who saw either the blue Toyota Hilux or blue BMW in the area at the time and would particularly like to speak to anyone who captured them on a dashcam.”

Information about the incident can be shared online at the Leicestershire Police website (reference 25*399816) or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
