The Sun announces winners of POS competition

    Maan News, Halesowen

The Sun has on Tuesday announced the winners of its Point of Sale competition held throughout July.

Arman Uppal, Baldev Mann and Paul Sanghera from the West Midlands, Yousif Al-Bazz from Yorkshire, Bhavna Patel and S&S Mitchell from the East of England, and Jayne Shields from Scotland have all won a prize bundle for their participation in the competition.

The newspaper launched the competition in July, with prize bundles worth over £300 on offer for independent retailers who promoted The Sun in store.

Winners were randomly selected from a number of who sent in photos of their promotional activity. The prize bundles contained a Boss Venom adult mountain bike, a Tom Kerridge cookbook, newspaper round delivery bags, The Sun illuminated shop sign, The Sun notebooks and The Sun window vinyls.

“I want to say a huge thank you to each independent retailer who took the time to enter our POS competition. The Sun is committed to championing the spirit of local businesses for a thriving retail community,” Victoria Newton, editor of The Sun, said.

Commenting, Muntazir Dipoti, the Fed’s national president, said: “Finding new ways of generating extra profits from the news category is high on my agenda, and I would like to thank The Sun for organising this POS competition. Thanks to all the members who entered and congratulations to our winners. I hope they enjoy their prizes. Supporting members to make more money from news is so important to the Fed, so I look forward to bringing news of further promotions in due course. Watch this space!”

The stores that requested the POS delivered strong sales increases vs other independent stores for the first six weeks after they received the POS materials, with over a third of the extra sales continuing into the following weeks.

Aman Uppal, of One Stop Mount Nod, Coventry, said: “As soon as I put out the POS material I saw an uplift in sales. I also used additional POS material to create a secondary advertisement over the weekend period. It’s always good to see news supply engaging with its retailers as it keeps sales active.”

Bhavna Patel, of Macraes, Wigston, said: “I am very happy as I never win anything. I entered because I thought I might as well, given that I sell The Sun anyway, I was not expecting to win.”

Baldev Maan, of Maan News, Halesowen, added: “I am over the moon. It goes to show promoting newspapers like this can grow sales and reap additional rewards.”
