Premier Foods has announced a donation of £100,000 to support Ukrainian refugees.

The maker of Mr Kipling cakes and Oxo cubes has donated the amount to the British Red Cross through the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

The DEC, which is an umbrella group for 15 UK charities, will use the funds to provide food, water and medical assistance to refugees fleeing Ukraine – who currently number almost 2.7 million.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by what is happening in Ukraine. Our thoughts are with all those who are impacted by this ongoing conflict,” the company said in a statement.

“We are sharing this update in support of the humanitarian relief efforts to support people affected by the crisis in Ukraine, and in solidarity with our friends, colleagues and peers across the world, as we call for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.”

Ukrainian and Russian representatives were set to meet via videoconference Monday. Talks between Kyiv and Moscow have yet to yield a ceasefire and Russian forces have shown no sign of easing their onslaught.
