A man has been charged in connection with an alleged early morning ram-raid on a convenience store in Dundee.

Police were called to the Premier shop on Claypotts Road in Broughty Ferry shortly before 5am on Wednesday January 18 following reports of an alleged incident. Pictures from the time showed a gaping hole in the window of the store and a green SUV parked outside, contained within a police cordon, stated local reports.

Officers now say they have arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with the incident. He is expected to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court today (2).

Investigation is still on. Officers have stated their thanks to members of the public who have come forward with information linked to the investigation.

The alleged incident saw the corner shop closed for several hours while forensics officers scoured the scene. Staff were eventually allowed to re-enter the shop and re-open for customers a day later.

“The police let us back in at 2pm the next day and our staff have been working very hard to clean it all up,” Saim Mohammed, owner of the shop, said at the time.

The news comes weeks after it was reported that two shops in North Hull were targetted by ram-raiders within a week. On Jan 19, a gang drove the vehicle into the front of Endike International in Endike Lane, north Hull, at around 2am. This followed a similar ram raid which targeted the Euro Supermarket in Ellerburn Avenue in Orchard Park earlier that week.

Staff member Sulyman Salih, speaking on behalf of the owner, says they are deeply frustrated by the ram raid which has left them with a huge clean-up bill and unable to open for the rest of the day.

“This has made us very angry and we feel there is no need for it. It is just horrible. It has caused nearly £8,000 in damage alone.

“We are still trying to figure out what was taken but it looks like a large number if e-cigarettes have been stolen which appears to me what they were looking for. There was also a few hundred quid in the till but we have not been able to check that yet,” reports quoted Salih as saying.
