A prolific shoplifter has been jailed after he stole energy drinks, clothing and alcohol from multiple retailers in Nottingham.

Mohammad Alali, 18, targeted shops including Tesco Express, Morrisons and Greggs between February and April.

Nottinghamshire Police said he first stole £650 worth of clothes from Superdry in the Victoria Centre. Alali, of Radford Road, Radford, admitted several offences of theft and was jailed for 16 weeks and fined £200 at the city’s magistrates’ court.

The force said Alali stole £30 worth of milkshakes from Tesco Express, Upper Parliament Street, and £40 worth of energy drinks from Morrisons Daily, Ilkeston Road, in February.

In March, he targeted the same businesses seven times and stole £1,410 worth of products from Superdry and £120 worth of energy drinks from Tesco Express and Morrisons Daily.

He also stole £18 worth of clothes from Next in the Victoria Centre and £70 of energy drinks from Greggs in Clumber Street.

Police said Alali went on to commit three burglaries at the Slug and Lettuce at The Cornerhouse, each time taking alcohol from behind the bar.

He was caught after being recognised on CCTV by a police officer. He was arrested on 29 April when he was spotted in Angel Row.

Alali pleaded guilty to 13 counts of theft and three counts of burglary and was sentenced at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. Police said Alali was on a suspended prison sentence at the time of the offences as he was previously convicted of theft.
