The NFRN has disbursed £100,000 to nearly 70 independent retailers from its COVID-19 Hardship Fund.

The milestone comes as News UK has announced its backing to the fund launched in April. The contribution from the publisher takes the current outlay of the fund to £235,000.

“News UK is incredibly grateful for all the work of our retailers throughout this pandemic to keep newspapers on the shelves, and in many cases starting or strengthening home news delivery services, ensuring nobody misses out on their favourite newspaper,” commented David Dinsmore, chief operating officer at the firm.

“We are proud to be supporting the NFRN’s hardship fund for hardworking retailers who have fallen on hard times and will continue to work with retailers to ensure we continue to serve our readers and your communities.”

The Fund offers financial assistance in the form of a grant to NFRN members – up to a maximum of £2,000 – suffering cash flow and other financial challenges.
