Shieldhill’s Keystore has been given permission to use a new app that will allow them to do home deliveries including alcohol.

Members of Falkirk Council Licensing Board heard that the shop on Main Street wants to use an app called Snappy Shopper, which allows customers to log on and order goods to be delivered from their nearest convenience store.

Developed in Dundee, the app is already used by retailers including ScotMid.

It will process the orders but the drivers making the deliveries will be employed by shop owner Steven Peddie.

The board heard that all drivers will be given training and will not hand any alcohol over to anyone who looks under 25 years old without ID and a signature.

Representing the store, solicitor Gordon Emslie said: “It’s a fairly robust system and I think you’ll be see more applications of this type coming to you.

“We are not talking huge volumes, it’s just another way to convenience stores adding another service to meet their customers’ needs.”

The last orders will be taken at 9pm and delivered by 10pm, he told councillors.

Licensing officer Thomas Ross said he had every confidence in shop owner Steven Peddie providing proper training but he advised that this be made a condition in case the licence changed hands.

Board members agreed to add this condition when they granted permission for the shop to go ahead and start using the app.
