Motor Fuel Group (MFG), the UK’s largest independent forecourt operator, has announce that in July 2025 its EV Power charging business has passed 1,000 ultra-rapid EV charging bays across its network.

This has been achieved in only four years since the launch of MFG’s investment in EV charging.

Highlights

MFG EV Power’s completion of 1,000 ultra-rapid EV charging bays creates a truly nationwide network open to all vehicles.

  • MFG EV Power now represents ~12% of the UK ultra-rapid charging network.
  • MFG EV Power is also the largest open ultra rapid charging network inside the M25 – with ~20% of all ultra-rapid chargers.

MFG launched its EV Power roll-out in March 2021.

  • MFG will install a total of c.3,000 ultra-rapid 150kW, 300kW and 400kW EV Chargers at c.500 sites by the end of 2030.
  • By 2035, MFG plans to complete its EV roll out to all suitable remaining locations in its network, including the Morrisons supermarket estate.

MFG is also installing EV Power rapid charging hubs on 300 Morrisons car parks – Morrisons will have the most extensive EV charging offer by comparison to its competitors.

  • Since the completion in April 2024 of its acquisition of 337 Morrisons petrol forecourts and more than 400 development plots in the supermarket car parks, MFG has installed 66 ultra-rapid EV charging bays on Morrisons supermarkets with 150 bays to follow in next 3-months.

MFG EV Power is installing ultra-rapid and rapid EV charging bays at a pace of more than 20 per week.

MFG is by far the largest forecourt operator in the UK with over 1,200 sites, including all Morrisons forecourts, which are ~90% freehold, with 150+ sites inside the M25 – providing an unrivalled and highly desirable platform for ‘on route’ and ultra rapid charging.

MFG’s Network

MFG has installed over 1,000 ultra-rapid EV charging bays across 170 hubs throughout the UK. This is by far the highest rollout of multi-bay, open ultra-rapid charging hubs in the roadside retail and supermarket sectors.

MFG is funding the roll-out through its cash flows and strong balance sheet, enabling the Group to commit to c.£400 million investment in ultra-rapid 150kW, 300kW and 400kW EV Chargers. MFG is able to use its strong cash flows from traditional fuel sales and its shop and valeting offers, to fund its aggressive EV roll out, a robust business model that is unlike other charge point operators.

This investment is necessary as, for example, in England, over 60 per cent of dwellings in cities and urban areas do not have garages or other off-road parking provisions, and so must rely on electricity from publicly accessible networks. In addition in 2024, one in five new vehicles purchased were electric with the UK Government mandating that 80 per cent of all new vehicles sold in the UK must be zero emission by 2030.

Therefore, the velocity of MFG’s EV roll-out will continue to accelerate as MFG invests ahead of the curve, giving drivers who were contemplating purchasing an electric vehicle the confidence that they could travel as easily as with a petrol or hybrid vehicle.

MFG has a dual fuel strategy on its forecourts, by developing EV Power charging hubs alongside traditional fuels, that are uniquely complemented by its adjacent convenience stores and food service outlets, including Greggs, Pret A Manger, Burger King, Subway and Costa, as well as ~900 MFG Car Wash Centers.

“When we launched our EV roll-out in March 2021 we committed to investing ahead of the curve in ultra-rapid chargers. I am therefore delighted that we have already passed the 1,000 ultra-rapid charger milestone,” William Bannister, CEO, MFG, said.

“Not only are we rolling-out chargers at a rapid pace, we are also ensuring that the customer experience is of the highest quality both through the ease of use of our chargers but also through the upgrade of our adjacent convenience retail, food service and vehicle valeting offer – investing £170m in 2025 alone. Our commitment to EV is unwavering and I look forward to the continued growth of our network as MFG meets the national EV infrastructure requirement.”
