A man has been sentenced to two years in jail for burglary that cost a Bulwell convenience store £7,500.
Delwyn McCaffery, 40, of Donbas Close, Bulwell, shattered the windows of the McColl’s Convenience store in Highbury Road with a sledgehammer just after midnight on 26 September 2019.
He took £3,700 worth of cigarettes from the store. In addition, the damage to the windows cost £1000 for the store which also lost £2,800 in loss of trade.
Nottingham Crown Court has also ordered McCaffery to pay victim surcharge of £149.
“Burglary is incredibly damaging to businesses, as it targets their property, inconveniences the business and its staff and leaves hard-working people out-of-pocket,” commented Detective Constable Colin Kirkup from Nottinghamshire Police.
“Crimes targeting shops are far from being ‘victimless crimes’ and we must be clear that we will not tolerate this behaviour in our county.”
Officers arrested McCaffery from his home address shortly after the incident, identifying him in the CCTV visuals. The sledgehammer used in the offence has also recovered from his house.
