A shop worker has been seriously injured as a three-member gang armed with machetes raided a Leeds store yesterday (23 June).
West Yorkshire Police said the victim, a 50-year-old man, is continuing to receive treatment in hospital for injuries “that are serious but not life threatening.” He worker received injuries to his hand and wrist,
The incident, which the police currently suspecting as an attempted robbery, happened shortly before 1.36pm at M&K Off Licence, at the junction of Stoney Rock Lane and Westlock Avenue, in Burmantofts.
“We are still working to establish the full circumstances of this incident and to establish the motive but one line of enquiry we are exploring is the attempted robbery of the shop,” Detective Inspector Michael Herbert, of Leeds District CID, said.
Detectives have appealed for information over the attack.
“We have spoken to a number of witnesses but are still very keen to hear from anyone who has seen the suspects in the area, particularly as they have fled the scene into Beckett Street Cemetery,” Herbert said.
“The victim has received very significant injuries and it is vital that we identify and arrest those responsible at the earliest opportunity.”
The suspects have been described as three white males, aged between 15 and 20, wearing dark clothing. They were seen to run off into Beckett Street Cemetery.
