A Clay Country village looks set to get a new convenience store after planning permission for the shop was approved.

A planning application was submitted to Cornwall Council to build the new convenience store in Fore Street, Bugle, next to the PC Tonkin & Son garage.

The application does not reveal which company would operate the new store but states that it is planned to be open from 6am to 11pm seven days a week.

In a design and access statement submitted with the application it states: “It is considered the proposal would encourage economic growth through the introduction of a new business site and offering additional employment opportunities for local people, thus providing social benefits.

“Furthermore, the proposed store will give local people more choice, making it easier for residents to find everything they need in the village and reducing the need for them to travel elsewhere.”

Under the plans the single storey building would have car parking spaces for 19 cars for customers including one for disabled parking.

The plans were granted planning approval by Cornwall Council with a planning officer stating: “The principle of a retail store as proposed in the village centre is considered to be compliant with the above policies of the Cornwall Local Plan. The design of the building is considered acceptable. It is not considered that the proposal would adversely impact upon neighbour amenity and would not cause harm to protected species. Highways and drainage arrangements are considered to be acceptable.”
