Stoke-on-Trent trading standards has visited a convenience store after concerns raised over the implementation of social distancing guidelines at the store.

Council leader Abi Brown said trading standards gave advice to the store, along with some posters to put up.

“They also advised them on the use of personal protective equipment. It’s important that convenience stores follow the guidance as elderly people rely on them,” she added.

Trading standards has also removed dodgy face masks from sale in a number of shops.

Officers swooped on one of the businesses after a customer complained about the sale of ‘non-regulation’ face masks.

Similar models were also removed from other city shops following the complaint.

“The owner of the store took them off sale and also took them out of a number of their other businesses across the city. So that one call made a lot of difference,” Brown said.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has refused to name the offending businesses.
