Birmingham c-store refurbished as Go Local Extra

A Birmingham convenience store has relaunched to become the area’s first Go Local Extra fascia store. Following a complete refurbishment, the store is already proving a success with customers and providing healthy competition to nearby local supermarkets.Independent retailer Mohammed ‘Naz’ Nazir has operated the store since 2010 under the Costcutter fascia. The flagship store, on Coventry Road in Yardley, is conveniently located near to Parfett’s recently opened Birmingham wholesale depot. The 2,800 sq ft store features a popular food-to-go offering, fresh groceries, several rows of well-stocked chillers and an extensive beer, wines and spirits section featuring a range of exclusive spirits from around the world. The store is open 24 hours, and the sales mix changes throughout the day. During work hours, it meets the needs of the nearby industrial area, and during the evening and early morning, the requirements of consumers heading out of Birmingham city centre.A partnership with Snappy Shopper has added another service for local consumers who want the convenience of home delivery.Naz worked closely with the Parfetts team alongside his two sons to develop and deliver the striking new look store and spacious layout. He chose to partner with Parfetts and Go Local Extra as he valued his independence combined with the flexibility and freedom to choose the best product range for his customers but with the full support of a strong support network.Commenting on the opening of his new Go Local Extra store, Naz said: “This was a great opportunity to take an established store to the next level. It was a straightforward decision to partner with Parfetts and Go Local Extra, and I’m now looking to switch my other store over as well, I’m that pleased with the success in just a few weeks.“I was already familiar with Parfetts as a reliable and great value wholesaler, so becoming the first Go Local Extra store in the area is a real honour, and it's an ideal fit for the store's busy catchment area. Since reopening, we are already appealing to a new type of customer as well as retaining loyal customers who have been shopping here for over 10 years.“I’m really pleased that the inviting new look of the store, combined with some unbeatable offers and promotions, is tempting new customers to come and try us. There is fierce local competition with two big supermarkets in the area, so it’s important to me that we continue to offer quality, variety, value and a valid reason for our customers to return. I also love being so close to the Parfetts depot, which means stocking up is always super convenient.“Parfetts provided hands-on support throughout the refurb and reopening, helping to get the store ready with everything from layout and design to launch marketing and strong opening promotions. I have exciting future plans for the store in terms of range expansion, variety, choice and value-based promotions, so I’m confident that we’ll have a great year on the sales front.”Parfetts is an employee-owned business, and its employees play a significant role in the success of the company and its retailers. As more independent retailers choose Parfetts, the business has enjoyed record growth thanks largely to its focus on great value and service from a team dedicated to the success of the retailers it supports.Steve Moore, head of retail at Parfetts, said: “We have worked in a close partnership with Naz to develop a flagship store that we can all be very proud of. Birmingham is a major growth area for us as a business, and the new Yardley store is already shaping up to be a major success.

"The store makes great use of the space to deliver an overwhelmingly positive experience for customers combined with a warm, friendly welcome. Nas is an ambitious and hard-working retailer with another successful store already under his belt, and we look forward to supporting the further growth of his retail businesses in future.”
