Biona condiments range heats up with two new mustards

Organic food supplier Biona is introducing two new high-quality and authentic French mustards, a traditional Wholegrain variant and a hotter French Dijon, which will both be available to retailers from May onwards.

The French Dijon mustard boasts an authentic intense and spicy taste and a smooth texture that adds a touch of French flair to dishes, coming in a 200g jar with an RRP of £3.29. Interestingly, current interest in Dijon mustards now surpasses English Mustard and has grown by eight per cent over the past three years. The French Wholegrain mustard is made using classic French recipe techniques, which give it a uniquely coarse texture and bold flavour which really sets it apart from other products on the market. It also comes in a 200g jar, but with an RRP of £3.49. Unlike most competitor products, both these mustards are free from harmful pesticides, preservatives or colourings and are made traditionally, with the French mustard seeds being carefully grounded, then blended with just spirit vinegar and seasoning.

Biona condiments range heats up with two new mustards

As one of the first organic companies in the UK, Biona is a family-run business with over 40 years’ experience supplying UK and international retail partners and has the largest UK organic offering, with over 500 products in categories such as bakery, ambient, pasta, oils and fruit juices. The UK’s organic food and drink market is now worth £3.2 billion in annual sales and showed robust growth of two per cent in 2023, despite a challenging year for both business and consumers. In fact, this is the twelfth consecutive year of growth which underlines both the resilience of the category as well as the continued headroom for further growth, with more and more consumers looking for naturally grown food and drink grown in farms without the use of harmful chemicals and pesticides.

“We’re excited to bring these two new mustards to market, to add to our ever-growing range of condiments and other products which are good for you and great for the planet,” said Kelly Shaw, Senior Marketing Manager at Biona’s parent company, Windmill Organic. “In February this year we carried out some consumer research which revealed two thirds of consumers had purchased organic food and drink in the last twelve months, and a quarter are doing it on a weekly basis, so we’re confident great tasting natural products like these will be well received by consumers and trade alike.”
