Anand Cheema’s ‘well run’ store allowed to deliver alcohol

    Spar Falkirk

A Falkirk convenience store run by Anand Cheema, winner of the Impulse Retailer of the Year award at the 31st Asian Trader Awards earlier this year, has been given permission to deliver alcohol along with groceries.

At a meeting of Falkirk Council’s licensing board, the Spar shop on Maggie Wood’s Loan, Falkirk, was praised for being well run.

Councillors heard that deliveries would be made using the Snappy Shopper app, which is already used by several other businesses locally.

Cheema told the board he would be taking on new staff to help make the deliveries and he assured councillors that they would be fully trained.

Deliveries will be refused to any customer who looks under 25 and cannot produce valid ID.

No objections were made to the application and it was granted as applied for.

Cheema opened the Spar shop – previously McColls – in August 2020 and refurbished it.

He previously made headlines when he was one of the first retailers to stock newly released vintage Rosebank Lowland single malt Scotch whisky.

Cheema has made the store a whisky hot-spot for connoisseurs, even selling several vintage bottles for £2,500.
