Officers are appealing for information following a robbery incident at a convenience store in Hawick, Scottish Borders.

The incident happened at around 8pm on 27 December at the Nisa store on Dickson Street.

A man reportedly entered the store and attempted to access the till and post office area. He then threatened a staff member with a bladed weapon before continuing to search the till area. Nobody was injured during the incident.

The suspect was around 5ft 7ins tall, of medium build, and dressed all in black. He wore a black balaclava covering his face, police said.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what was stolen, but the suspect is believed to have left with a quantity of cash from the till.

“This has been a frightening incident for the staff member and we have a number of enquiries being conducted to establish who the man is and what has been stolen,” Detective Constable Claire White from Galashiels CID said.

“The man was in and out of the shop in under a minute and we are keen to establish where he came from to enter the store and where he went when he left.

“Anyone who saw a suspicious man in the area, or has information to help police enquiries, should get in touch as soon as possible.”

Those with information should contact Police Scotland via 101 and quote incident number 4015 of Wednesday 27 December 2023. An anonymous report can be given to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
