SPAR Scotland has opened two newly refurbished stores this month, a company-owned store in Troon, in South Ayrshire and an independent store at Greenhill Road in Paisley.

The 800 sqft store in Paisley, run by retailer Barry Hanif, has been fully refurbished and held an open day for local customers on 5 May.

The store offers a range of licenced BWS products, lottery, ATM, Tango ice blast, Pret Coffee, Aulds bakery products as well as hosting Greenhill café and seating area.

At the in-store event, local shoppers were invited to enter a free prize draw to win a 24” smart HD TV and two £50 vouchers. There were SPAR goody bags and free product sampling for everyone to enjoy on the day. There were also special offers on a host of SPAR own label and leading branded daily essential food and drink items that local customers were encouraged to take full advantage of.

“Since joining SPAR in August last year things have gone from strength to strength. Following my store refit, which has been completed to a fantastic standard, sales in every category have grown,” Barry Hanif said.

“Our customers love the shop and the range we have put in and feedback in general has been extremely positive. The team and support that CJ Lang & Son provide is second to none and I am really pleased I took the opportunity to join the SPAR family!”

Brian Straiton, SPAR Scotland sales director, said: “We are delighted to welcome Barry and his team to SPAR. This store on Greenhill Road in Paisley will be a great addition to the local community and our focus will be on helping Barry grow his business and take it to the next level.

“We are committed to investing in the growth of our independent retailer network which is a key ingredient in the success of SPAR Scotland. This latest store re-opening underlines our commitment to growing the business for the long term.”

Residents of Troon were invited to the official store launch of SPAR Deveron Road on 17 May.

The 2,300 sqft company-owned store has been trading on Deveron Road since October 2022. Following an extensive refit, a new modern checkout has been installed including tobacco drawers and backlighting to spirits.

The store also has a brand-new food-to-go CJ’s section including new hot and cold serve overs, a great range of local products, quality food and drink essentials and SPAR’s own label range.

On the opening day, residents were invited to play SPAR Scotland’s spinning wheel to be in with a chance to win a variety of prizes. There were 100 SPAR goody bags and free product sampling for everyone to enjoy from, AG Barr, Browning’s the Bakers, and Snappy Shopper, in addition to the special offers on a host of SPAR own label and leading branded items.

“The store looks fantastic. We are delighted to welcome shoppers of Troon to their refurbished SPAR store,” Steven Irons, company owned stores director at SPAR Scotland, said.

“We have put a lot of effort into the newly designed store which has been revamped to offer a more customer-focused layout. Customers can browse new ranges with ease and avail of our extensive food-to-go offering.”

SPAR Scotland also donated £500 each to three local charities, Marr Rugby Club, South Ayrshire Foodbank and Ayrshire Housing, as part of the launch event.
