Asda opens 100th C-store

Asda has today (22) opened its landmark 100th Asda On the Move store in partnership with EG Group and confirmed plans to open a further 100 sites across the UK this year, as part of its strategy to create more convenient ways for customers to shop.

The 100^th store, which is located on Cargo Fleet Lane in Middlesbrough, is one of 35 that have opened so far this year on EG Group’s existing forecourt estate. Asda supplies the products on a wholesale basis to EG Group, which owns and operates each site.

Asda is also expanding its presence in the convenience market through its new Asda Express convenience brand, which launched before Christmas with the opening of standalone stores in Sutton Coldfield and Tottenham Hale. The supermarket is planning to open 300 Asda Express stores by the end of 2026 in urban and residential locations.

The retailer has also acquired 132 convenience stores and attached petrol filling stations from the Co-op Group. This deal is currently going through the CMA’s normal competition review process.
