    Drinkaware unveils new organisational strategy

Drinkaware, the UK’s leading alcohol charity, has announced the launch of a new strategy, which aims to reduce alcohol harm in the UK.

Drinkaware’s new strategy will run for three years, from January 2023 to December 2025. The charity will check in on its progress in 2024.

The strategy denotes a shift in its strategic direction, moving from a focus on individual behaviour change, to societal change. The charity is currently developing a Theory of Change, defining how what they do is expected to lead to the change they want to see.

“Many factors influence behaviour, including individual motivation, the wider environment and policy and regulation. We want to see change at a societal level, and create a future where people who choose to drink can make informed choices about their drinking and do it in a low-risk way,” the document says.

Announcing the latest steps to achieve Drinkaware’s vision, Karen Tyrell, chief executive, said: “This is an exciting time for Drinkaware with a new chair, new chief executive and new trustees, all with a shared sense of purpose.”

“We believe that we have a shared responsibility for the culture of the society we want to live in. The world around us matters. As such, real partnership is vital to achieve the scale of change that we want to make.

“Working together with the alcohol industry, government, researchers, academics, charities and others will allow us to make tangible change to the UK’s drinking culture so more people can lead healthy, happy lives.”
