Hancocks concludes year-long celebrations marking 60th anniversary

60th anniversary celebrations at Loughborough depot of Hancocks

It’s been a busy year for the UK’s leading confectionery wholesaler Hancocks after they celebrated their 60th anniversary across 14 depots across the UK.

Celebrations started in February at Hancocks’ flagship East Midlands store in Loughborough where the company has its roots. Founders Ray and Liz Hancock began wholesaling confectionery from their sweet shop in 1962.

Customers attending the store event enjoyed over 160 offers with hundreds of pounds worth of savings.

The savings and deals offered to retailers worked to increase footfall in stores for the milestone anniversary, with thousands of customers visiting stores up and down the country.

The Sheffield store was the second to open in 1969 and was the 12th store to host a celebratory event for the brand this year.

Employees at the Manchester store experienced a record-breaking number of customer visits in one day at the Gorton locations, with 246 retailers walking through the doors on the 9th June.

The Cardiff store also experienced one of their busiest days ever, with hundreds of customers taking advantage of deals and meeting brand representatives from Swizzels, Shmoo, Rowntrees, LoveRaw, Perfetti Van Melle, Candy Cans and Stockleys.

2022 was an extra special year for the Liverpool store, who were also celebrating their 15th year of supplying the city’s sweet shops and keeping them well stocked with confectionery favourites.

Some dedicated customers travelled over 200 miles to celebrate with the store team at Hancocks’ Glasgow depot, which moved to a bigger site in Blochairn in 2001.

The recently refurbished Chester Le Street/Newcastle depot hosted the final celebratory store event in November, with local customers in attendance to take advantage of the deals on offer.

“We’ve had a fantastic year of celebrations to mark our sixtieth anniversary and have welcomed thousands of customers into our depots,” Jonathan Summerley, chief operating officer at Hancocks, said.

“It has been a pleasure to mark the milestone birthday in a series of celebrations with our customers, and to give back to them through great discounts, offers and competitions.

“Reaching this anniversary is a testament to how our teams across the business work together, the service and products we’re able to supply to retailers, however large or small and the suppliers we work with on a daily basis.

“As with all retailers, we had to adapt and evolve over the years, more so in the last two years. We’ve invested heavily in our online offering, our supply infrastructure and this combined with the 14 depots across the UK, means we offer flexibility and the opportunity for retailers to shop in whatever way suits them.”

Part of the World of Sweets group, Hancocks serves over 25,000 independent retailers from their 14 nationwide cash and carry stores and an online channel.
