Supermarket Tesco is under fire from shoppers over its reported decision to discontinue corn flour, triggering the fear that Britons may face another crisis in the form of shortage of key kitchen ingredient.

Supermarket Tesco revealed in a tweet that they have discontinued the product because of “low customer demand”. The announcement created a furor, creating the fear that the key kitchen ingredient could disappear from supermarket shelves forever.

The revelation came after one customer posted on Twitter asking the company why it was no longer stocking corn flour.

A spokesman for Tesco responded by saying: “Corn flour has been discontinued because of low customer demand I’m afraid.”

Tesco’s response prompted outrage especially from parents, with users saying that although they often didn’t buy the product more than once every six months owing to its long shelf life, it was still an essential part of their food cupboard.
