A convenience store in Derbyshire was broken-into during the early morning hours of Wednesday (7).

According to local reports, the Derbyshire Armed Response Unit were called to a report of a possible gun shot in Ilkeston at around 3am on Wednesday (7). Firearms officers descended on Derbyshire town only to discover a different type of crime had taken place.

On arrival it was found that a convenience store had been broken into – and the smashing of the toughened glass door had caused the bang.

A male suspect was located by Erewash Police nearby and subsequently arrested.

Elsewhere in Derbyshire, tributes have been pouring in to ‘strong and beautiful’ Umida Amarsi-Jiwa, owner of Crossways convenience store in Bolsover, who lost her fight with cancer recently.

Last week over 60 people attended a memorial event held in front of the shop, laying flowers and releasing balloons to pay their respects to Umida.

“She loved her community and customers and even opened for us on Christmas! She put everyone else first before herself,” Derbyshire Times quoted Katie Dean, an A&E Doctor at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and Umida’s friends who set up a fundraiser for Ashgate Hospice and organised Remembering Umida event, as saying.
