An ATM machine has been ripped off from a convenience store in Newstead during early hours of Thursday (28) morning using chainsaws, various tools and a van.

As per local reports, a gang attached a chain to a cash machine in McColl’s, in Newstead, before dragging it from a shop using a van during an early morning raid.

Staffordshire Police stated that officers were called to Wimbourne Avenue, Stoke-on-Trent, at 1.20am on Thursday (28) following reports of a burglary.

Witnesses reported spotting a white Ford Transit and white Volkswagen Golf parked outside a business premises.

“About four or five men were seen coming out of the vehicles, all wearing dark clothing. The offenders removed cash cassettes from the machine and left in the Volkswagen Golf – in the direction of Trentham Road,” the police said.

The latest robbery is the third incident in a month where a Stoke-on-Trent convenience store has been targeted and a cash machine taken. Local reports stated how a stolen silver Ford Transit van was found in Abbey Hulton at around 2.15 am on April 1 after five men raided the cash machine at the Co-op store on Abbots Road.

In another incident, a van, thought to be stolen, was driven into the Co-op on Leek New Road in Baddeley Green while the ‘ATM cash box’ was taken. During that incident – which took place on April 14 at around 2.50am – raiders got into a Volkswagen Golf and headed off in the direction of Leek.
